Kiowa Colorado is located about 20 miles east of Castle Rock on Highway 86. Kiowa is the county seat for Elbert County. According to the 2010 Census, Kiowa’s 80117 zip code had just over 2,100 residents. The town has several restaurants, a used car lot, and their own police department.
Kiowa History
The Town of Kiowa Colorado as we know it today was settled in 1859 along the banks of Kiowa Creek and was originally nothing more than a stage stop. Even today Kiowa is a farming and ranching community. It is not unusual to be sitting in one of the town’s restaurants and overhear locals talking about their parents having homesteaded the area.
