Elizabeth Colorado is a small town only 15 miles east of Castle Rock on Highway 86 in Elbert County. According to the 2010 Census, Elizabeth’s 80107 zip code was home to just over 12,000 residents.
Elizabeth Colorado began in 1855 as a saw mill camp. A few years later, in 1858, gold was discovered in the creek. A gold rush followed, but the quality and quantity of the gold never lead to a boom for the Town. However, settlers did steadily move in, to work the land. The economic activity of the Town revolved around logging, farming, cattle ranching and dairy farming. These activities served the needs of residents of Elizabeth and Denver as well.
Elizabeth has prospered through both good and bad economic times. Today Elizabeth Colorado is home to several small businesses, a Walmart Supercenter, Big R ranch supply store and a Sonic. While the town is seeing a lot of growth it has maintained its small town feel.
The Elizabeth Colorado school district supports earl childhood programs, has 2 elementary schools, 1 middle school and 2 high schools as well as Legacy Academy a K-8 Charter School. Frontier High School was opened in 1994 as an alternative school of choice for district students. For more information visit Elizabeth C1‘s website.
